Meet the Designer – Interview with Alessio Atzeni

Today we present to our readers an interview with web designer and front-end developer – Alessio Atzeni. He is a passionate web designer specializing in XHTML, CSS and Javascript web development, and each site he develops is built to be search engine friendly.

Hi Alessio, thanks for agreeing to this interview! Could you introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Alessio Atzeni and i am 25 year old web designer and front-end developer. I am a passionate of web design in all forms especially in CSS3 Animations.

How you got started in web development? Why did you choose this direction? What skills should possess a modern and successful web designer?

I started as a hobby with HTML and CSS 1.0, then with the progress of the technology i have deepened my studies and passion is increased considerably.

Please, tell us your point of view about the trends that characterize the web of 2011? How do you think, what will be popular in 2012?

The year 2011 was characterized with the advent of HTML5 and CSS3 and intensive use of typography and mobile, where even the web designer have had to adapt the design for mobile and tablet. I think in 2012 we will have more interactive websites without using Flash, as with HTML5, CSS3 and jQuery you can get really high quality products.

What is your opinion about HTML55 & CSS3? How do you think, how quickly these technologies will be able completely to go out to the market, taking into account that the diminishing of the old browsers and the most problem versions of IE on the market is very slow, not as many of web developers would like it to be.

Unfortunately, IE is and always will be a problem for web designers, maybe with new version IE 10 have significant improvements thanks to the use of HTML5 and CSS3. We hope that many users upgrade to new modern browser to view websites that exploit these technologies.

What are your favorite development tools and why?

My tools consist of a Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Sketch book and my iPod.

How many browsers do you use in your work. And what about the IE 6,7 support?

I mainly use Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera and IE9, having installed on my PC even a virtual machine they are installed older version browsers to test the variuos projects. I don’t develope more for IE6, unless not asked by the client, with the advent of IE10 i will give away even IE7.

It would be interesting to our readers, many of whom are beginning web designers, to know where do you get the inspiration for your projects? How you develop your ideas?

Inspiration comes to me just as it does to many designers, also the music helps me in the projects. Web, community and various blog can help at times when the inspiration is totally lacking. Start with some draft on paper, then step on over to Photoshop to create the layout and care for details.

What could you advise to the young web developers? How to get started? What difficulties they may face while mastering their skills? Are there any useful resources you could recommend to our readers?

I recommend to study and experiment, then if you have a passion it is easier to learn different programming languages. There are many free resources and tutorials on the web can help beginners and expert people.

Everyone knows that it’s not an easy task to manage your working time when you work as a freelancer. How do you organize your working process and what motivates you to work effectively and not to lose the interest?

It is not an easy task, you must be very organized you mat not enter in total chaos. There are many applications that can help in this field, which keep organized any information, from contact with various client to keep a record of the hours spends on the various projects. It can also happen that a designer can lose interest, but as for me i try to learn new things, experiment and compared with other designers to get feedback and improve my weaknesses.

What are some of your favorite sites that you have in your rss feed?

I’m not subscribed to any feed RSS, i prefer to use Twitter to capture information about web design.

What changes you expect to see in the web development community in the next 5 years?

The changes in web are order of the day and sometimes you can stay back, so i hope to see more open sources for code and design assets. We should be helping each other out as much as possible.
